Mountain Bike at Whistler Olympic Park - Sunday July 19th

Update on Laps and Start times: Based on the advice of the Commissaire, the Pro-Elite Men will do five laps of the course and the 35 - 39 Masters Men will do four (one additional per category). There are some changes to other categories that will be shared at sign-on / registration on Sunday.

Bring your family and friends out to a day in the mountains at Whistler Olympic Park for the Team Whistler / Whistler Olympic Park (WOP) Bike Race. We joined forces to host the first Mountain Bike Race to be held at the 2010 Olympic Venue. This will be a great opportunity to race and check out the new Olympic venue.

  • BC Cup Mountain Bike Race
    • for licensed riders looking to win the BC Cup Points Series or capture BC Cup points
  • Citizens' Mountain Bike Race
    • for non-licensed riders looking to test their skills, race their friends and be part of the newest, classic mountain bike race in the Sea-to-Sky corridor
  • Kids! Check out the first-ever ActNow BC Summer Biathlon! Bike the cross country course and take aim at the biathlon range! Race your friends and family! Details and registration at ActNow BC.

Whether you are a seasoned competitor or new to the sport come out and explore the new mountain bike trails at Whistler Olympic Park. This is the fourth race in the Cycling BC “BC Cup” Series and is the newest epic mountain bike race in the sea-to-sky corridor.

 

Schedule

There will be two mountain bike race starts for the day (based on category) as well as the Kids Biathlon event start.

  • The first racers will start at 9:30am and includes:
    • Citizens "starter" (8km)
    • Citizens "entre" (16km)
    • U15 Males and Females
    • U17 Males
    • Junior, Senior and Masters Females
      • Awards for the 9:30 start scheduled for 11am
  • The second race start is at 11:30am (updated) and includes:
    • Citizens "full meal" (24km)
    • Junior, Senior and Master Males
    • Elite Females and Males
      • Awards for the 11:30 start scheduled for 2pm
  • Kids Biathlon start time to be provided shortly.

Prices

If you register before July 5th you save $10 on your race fee! Note: Full prices now in effect as we have passed the Early Bird registration date.

Citizens:

  • All Citizens categories are $35 ($25 before July 5th) and include one-day race license
  • All one-day licensed riders must race as a Citizen

BC Cup:

  • Age 10 - 14: $25 ($15 before July 5th)
  • 15 &16 years: $35 ($25 before July 5th)
  • Junior, Senior and Master: $50 ($40 before July 5th)
  • Elite: $60 (eligible for BC Cup prize money) ($50 before July 5th)

Kids Race:

  • Free to the first 50 kids registering - day of registration only (Limited to 50)

* Ages as of December 31, 2009. After July 5th, add a $10 late entry fee

Don't hold a race licence?  No problem, a one-day license is included in the Citizen Category fee. US riders are welcome with a purchase of a one-event.  Riders will be asked to sign a declaration that adequate out of country insurance has been obtained for racing. Note that Citizen award categories will be defined based on registered participants.

Course

The cross-country, Olympic style (XCO) course was designed to maximize the existing Whistler Olympic Park cross-country ski trails and be augmented with technical single track. With lots of places to pass, and lots of climbing as the trails weave in and out of the Callaghan Valley forest. The course starts and finishes in the Cross Country ski stadium and begins the climb towards the top of the Ski Jumps before heading back down through the forest. Exact laps are yet to be finalized but are expected to be approximately 8km (distance and laps may change).

ce supporters may feed from designated area.

Citizens:

  • your choice "starter" (8km), "entre" (16km) or "full meal" (24km) races (self select)
  • Citizen award categories will be defined based on registered participants.

BC Cup (to be confirmed):

  • U15 1 lap (8km) *updated*
  • U17 2 laps (16km) *updated*
  • Junior, Senior and Master Female 2 laps at 16km
  • Junior, Senior and Master Male 3 laps now 4 laps at 32 km
  • Elite Female 3 laps now 4 laps at 32km
  • Elite Male 4 laps now 5 laps at 40km

All distances to be confirmed once the final course is set.

Registration Schedule:

  • Early Online Registration - ended July 5th 
  • July 6th to 17th: Regular On-line Registration
  • Sunday July 19th: Sign-on and registration:
    • 8am "Day of" Registration opens (save the lines and pre-register!!)
    • 9:00 am registration cut-off for the 9:30 am race start
    • 10:30 am registration cut-off for teh 11:30am race start
  • Pre-Registration available on Karelo.

Cancellation Policy: No refunds once a rider has ridden on the course (day of event), even in the case of injury or mechanical problem. A $5 administration fee will be assessed for any refund granted.
