The cycling season is not over yet even though the mountains open for skiing today. Mike Charuk and Tony Routley just completed the La Ruta de los Conquistadors. This 4 day stage race is billed as one of the most difficult mountain bike race on the planet traveling from coast to coast of Costa Rica through several lavish rain forests, majestic volcanoes, spectacular mountains and crystal clear rivers. All this of course made for some very competitive racing with climbs taking up to 3 hours to complete. After day one Mike Charuk was in 1st place in the master B and Tony Routley was 2nd in the Veteran category. Charuk maintained his lead to win the overall master B in 21:53:44. Routley came within 25 seconds of first overall on day 3 but ended up third overall by the races conclusion in a total time of 24:11:48 behind 3 time Tour de France racer Kristian Silseth Ole and Roberto Ballesteros. Now back to training for next season.
